Amalgam Removal and
Mercury Toxicity Treatment
Silver fillings contain 50% mercury which is a powerful toxin. The American Dental Association (ADA) defends the use of amalgam fillings in dentistry based on the belief that when mercury is bound to other metals it is not released into the body and is therefore safe. They also contend that amalgam has been used for many years with no clinical studies proving that it is harmful.
In contrast, there are health care practitioners who believe that mercury in dental fillings can be harmful to certain individuals and make recommendations that amalgam be replaced. We encourage patients to make an informed decision about whether they wish amalgam to be a part of their dental care approach, and we offer links at the end of this section to help patients with that decision.
I provide a service to those individuals wishing to have mercury removed in a way that reduces exposure to the heavy metal. I follow the recommendations issued by the International Association of Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). This organization has funded extensive study of the effects of mercury and other toxins.

Consultation is provided on an individual basis involving the pros and cons of filling replacement and material selection. I feel that patients need to be well-informed and ultimately need to make decisions for themselves. No dental material is perfect and many factors play into the decision to proceed with mercury removal.
