Brushing and flossing your teeth at home isn't enough to maintain good oral health.
However, routine oral examinations can help you avoid tooth pain and intensive dental procedures.
Benefits of Oral Examinations
During your appointment, we'll use transillumination to detect cavities, cracked teeth, and other issues that compromise oral health. Like the name suggests, transillumination works by lighting up your tooth so we're able to see damage not visible to the naked eye. Transillumination is noninvasive and doesn't expose you to radiation.
We will still take dental x-rays from time to time. For example, we need to do a panoramic x-ray every 2 to 5 years to check for bone abnormalities, impacted teeth, cysts, and other oral health issues. Dental x-rays help us understand what is happening beneath the surface so you can avoid problems in the future.
During your appointment, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about your oral health. Your holistic dentist and hygienist will be more than happy to explain how you can achieve a beautiful healthy smile. During your appointment, we'll do an oral cancer screening, check your bite and jaw, and make sure you understand your risk for cavities and gum disease.
