Never ignore a toothache. Tooth pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong.

The sooner you seek emergency dental care, the more likely we'll be able to save your tooth and avoid extraction.

Our emergency dentists do everything in their power to save your smile after a tooth abscess, including root canal therapy.

Lake Leelanau Root Canal Therapy

Dental pulp is the living tissue inside your tooth. Once a cavity is deep enough to penetrate the inside of your tooth, you'll need root canal treatment. First, your root canal dentist will take x-rays to determine the extent of tooth decay. Next, your dentist will numb your tooth with local anesthetic. Once you're properly numb, your dentist will drill a hole through the top of your tooth so they can remove infected pulp.

Root canal symptoms include:

  • Persistent toothache
  • Darkening of tooth
  • Loose tooth
  • Prolonged tooth sensitivity to heat and cold
  • Pimple on gums

Throughout the procedure, your dentist will flush the inside of your tooth with water. As a final step, we'll place a root canal crown to restore your tooth to its original strength and appearance. We use CEREC so your crown can be placed in one appointment.

During the root canal procedure, your dentist will remove infected dental pulp and seal the tooth. To schedule emergency dental care with our Lake Leelanau dentists, call (231) 256-9142.
